Kristen Wiig Has Had Enough of This Over-the-Top Food Trend
Leave it to the comedy queen to have some strong opinions!
Kristen Wiig has been making audiences laugh ever since her very first appearance on Saturday Night Live. She created so many iconic original characters for the show, and she was great at doing impressions of beloved pop culture icons like Liza Minnelli and Kathie Lee Gifford. But my favorite Kristen Wiig moment will always be 2011’s comedy blockbuster Bridesmaids. I probably think of a quote from that movie every single day—Kristen is pretty much guaranteed to make me laugh.
That’s why I was so happy to see her on a recent episode of one of my favorite podcasts, Las Culturistas. Hosted by comedians Bowen Yang (of SNL and Wicked fame) and Matt Rogers, the podcast is always a bright spot in my week. They have a tradition called “I Don’t Think So Honey,” where guests get one minute to go on a humorous rant about something they want to get off their chest. Kristen chose this moment to give us her thoughts on today’s snack climate—and it’s hilarious.
What is Kristen Wiig’s favorite snack?
She starts off incredibly strong by addressing her rant to snack companies directly. “I need snack companies, preferably chips and popcorn, to stop creating flavors,” she says. “Back in the day, you wanted to get a popcorn, you got a plain, you got a cheese, and you got a caramel. Now you’ve got the truffles, you’ve got the herbs … It’s too much confusion. I get grocery store confusion. There’s too many flavors!”
She even weighs in on the beverage market as well. “There’s too many canned drinks, too many sparkling things with flavors and probiotics. There’s protein everywhere—there’s protein in your popcorn.”
Listen, I love living in the golden age of snacks and the beverage renaissance, but I see her point! And while Kristen Wiig definitely has a lot of big opinions on snacks, she does admit in the episode that her favorite snack is a Cool Ranch Dorito. So even as a flavor traditionalist, it seems like she made an exception.
